Created in six different locations across North America, the ice castles are built entirely by hand using hundreds of thousands of icicles placed by professional ice artists. The castles include breathtaking LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, and fountains. icecastles.com/winnipeg *to be confirmed for 2019 Mandela: Struggle for Freedom Opening Summer 2018 at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights How far will a human being go to fight for freedom? Through a rich sensory experience of soundscape, digital media and artifacts, this new exhibition explores an earthshaking fight for justice and human dignity in South Africa and its relevance to issues of today. humanrights.ca/exhibit/mandela-struggle-freedom Pocca Poca Spa Winnipeg's newest spa focuses on Ganban-yoku, which is a popular form of thermal relaxation therapy in Japan. It is one of a handful of spas in Canada offering this treatment. Ganban-yoku uses rare stones found only in certain areas of the world, which release therapeutic warmth once they are heated. The stones are embedded in comfortable smooth slab beds. Silky sweat is perspired during the session and does not have stickiness or smell. This silky sweat acts as a natural lotion leaving skin smooth, radiant and glowing. poccapocaspa.com Shop Local The shop local trend is booming in Winnipeg as artisans are gaining more of a storefront presence, such as mega Instagram influencers Jenna Rae Cakes, luxury candlemakers Coal & Canary and McNally Robinson Booksellers setting up shop at The Forks. Local indie shops Public General Store and Tara Davis Studio are chock full of products by local makers, while hipster urban craft show Third + Bird has grown exponentially and attracted tourists who make the trip for their pop-up markets. designquarterwinnipeg.ca Ice Castles: Mike Peters Photo courtesy of Pocca Poca Spa Photo courtesy of CMHR Poppie Clothing: William Au
