62 62 Students are trained in the management and administration of tourism and cultural businesses, the marketing of a property, a service, a place or a tourist attraction and other special events. The training also focuses on the development of tourism packages and programs in the natural, urban and/or rural environments, as well as on leadership strategies, hospitality, animation and the management of groups and tourists. The program includes a workplace internship. The city and province's largest university, the University of Manitoba has a faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management, which offers the following courses which have content related to event management: » Administration of Special Events » Program Planning » Advanced Program Planning » Marketing and Managing Leisure Services » Introduction to Leisure Travel Other event/festival-related education opportunities in Winnipeg include: » Creative Communications degree/diploma in advertising/public relations/journalism and broadcasting at Red River College » Culinary Arts diploma at Red River College with training at the new Paterson GlobalFoods Institute » Asper School of Business at University of Manitoba with majors in leadership and organization, finance, marketing etc. j. Special Incentives/Discounts Provided to Festivals and Events by Local Venues Most local venues and hotels in Winnipeg offer discounted non-profit rates in support of local festivals and events or even waive venue fees as in-kind support -- details vary on a case-by-case basis. This includes the City of Winnipeg's parks and recreational facilities, which are often venues for local events and festivals. The Forks, one of the major outdoor festival sites in the city, is often cited by local festivals for its generosity with value in-kind services and goods. Local attractions and theatres also step up in support of festivals, such as Winnipeg Fringe Festival, by offering discounted rates in support of the arts. k.
