Black Friday brings sophisticated savings to Winnipeg

November 24, 2015 mgtourismwpg

Dear American readers, with your dollar currently being worth about $1.33 Canadian, you’d be a fool not to drive up to Winnipeg this weekend for all the hottest Black Friday deals.

For starters, Canadian shoppers are generally a much gentler bunch — we’ve never had a trampling while overnighting outside a store in a sleeping bag won’t be necessary — so your shopping experience will go that much more smoothly.

Plus, we have so many great hotels that will make your shopping stay much more enjoyable, while our world-class attractions will provide the ideal respite from too much shopping (as if there is such a thing).

CF Polo Park always keeps it classy and fashionable when it comes to Black Friday. This year Winnipeg’s largest mall (which is known for high-fashion stores) opens bright and early at 7:00 a.m on Black Friday, November 27th. For some added hype Virgin 103.1 FM and 99.9 BOB FM will be broadcasting live on-site while CF Polo Park’s fashion stylists will be on hand to help you find all the best gifts and trends. If you download the CF SHOP! App you can check out the Black Friday retail store promotions, while currently on their Instagram account they are having a contest whereby you could win a shopping spree.

Grant Park Shopping Centre doesn’t bother with a traditional Black Friday, and instead opts for a sophisticated event the night before. Their Black & White Thursday Night (November 26 from 5-9 p.m.) features live entertainment in the mall, refreshments, prize draws and more. Of course, there will be great savings too along with in-store surprises including sampling, wardrobing workshops and other unique experiences from their retailers. They will also be collecting donations of baby formula and cash in support of the Atticus McIlraith Baby Formula Drive for Winnipeg Harvest.

Some shops at Kildonan Place will be opening their doors as early as 7 a.m. on Black Friday with all shops open by 8 a.m. If you show your receipts to Guest Services on Black Friday you’ll get a Happy Deal Button that will see you get a $10 Kildonan Place gift card from Nov. 28 to Dec. 3 (for the first 250 people). There will also be massive savings at select stores throughout the day which they’ll be posting on their social media channels.

At Garden City Shopping Centre Black Friday starts at 7:30 a.m. and runs until 9 p.m. Energy 106 will be broadcasting live from Santa’s new village from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. while from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. they will have giveaways and special promotions for you early shoppers. At 9:30 a.m. Goodlife Fitness will host a free open Zumba class at centre court and a pair of Grey Cup tickets will be given away in fun fashion. And of course, there will be lots of gift cards and other awesome gifts available throughout the day.

St. Vital Shopping Centre is doing a full football-themed Black Friday weekend from Nov. 27 to 29. Doors will be open starting at 8 a.m. on Friday, with a full announcement of weekend-long sales being announced here.

With this being a fashion-themed Black Friday article it only makes sense to go outside the malls to tell you about what is going on at Lennard Taylor (223 McDermot Avenue). Taylor, who is one of Winnipeg’s finest designers, is having a sale of up to 90 per cent off select items on Friday and Saturday. His handmade designs (he is constantly found on the sewing machine at the front of his shop) range from denim, to custom printed and fabricated tees, to exquisite leather works, all of which will add a little edge to your wardrobe.
