Valentine’s Day in The Peg brings all the love for singles and couples

Looking to get a little romantic on February 14th?

Well, I’m here to help. I know all the ins and outs of turning up the heat here during Valentine’s Day, that sexy time of year when the snows of winter continue to fall and you want to get even closer.

First off, Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples, and Festival du Voyageur knows this well. For instance, what would be better than meeting a new partner while jigging it up on the hay-covered dance floors at FDV?

FDV’s Singles Night (presented by Diamond Gallery, 8 p.m. to midnight) takes place in the Université de Saint-Boniface Portage Tent and I tell you, between all the beards and fléchées, it’s going to get mighty steamy.

Oh la la is right mon ami!

As they say on the FDV website, “the French Language… is the language of love,” and Singles Night will bring love games and competitions that will surely light your desires and help you on your quest for that one special someone. It will be hosted by François Therrien Virgnon with DJ Co-op spinning some sultry jams.

If you want to make a full day out of FDV for St. V check out Fashion on Ice on the Red River Mutual Trail — which starts at 3 p.m.

What better way to prep yourself for your Singles Night than to find some inspirational looks at Canada’s coolest fashion show? Fashion on Ice is a showcase for 10 of the city’s best fashion and accessory designers; a wintery runway that Derek Zoolander would surely approve of.

And get this Festival fans, I have two 10-day passes to give away as part of this article!

To enter, leave a comment below on what you think is the most romantic spot in the city and we’ll draw a winner on Monday, February 8th. It’s just that easy!

The next logical choice for a Valentine venue is St. Valentine’s Horror Con, which is happening from February 13-14 at the RBC Convention Centre. Think about it, you’ve got your best cosplay outfit on, as does he or she, you lock eyes from across the room — two lasers of love like Cyclops-turned-to-Cupid — and you strike up a conversation before getting your picture taken together with Kane Hodder, who played Jason in four Friday the 13th films and Leatherface in Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III.

Anyone who has attended Central Canada Comic Con — which draws thousands of sci-fi, comic, cosplay and video game fans to the RBC Convention Centre — knows that St. Valentine’s Horror Con is going to be a blast. There will be great exhibitors, celebrity guests, and some great collectables that could make excellent Valentine’s gifts. Plus tickets are only $10!

If you are looking to do something a bit more traditional with a loved one on the 14th check out FortWhyte Alive, where love will be in the winter air. From noon to 3 p.m. for $15 ($12 for FortWhyte Alive members) you can go on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride followed by some hot (like sexy hot), hot chocolate by the fire. Reserve your space today by calling 204.989.8355.

Assiniboine Park is also getting in on the romance with a Valentine’s Day Dinner in the Park Café, “an intimate setting nestled on the banks of the Riley Family Duck Pond.” They’ll be offering a special four-course prix fixe menu with live music from Shannon Kristjanson, while you also have the option of adding on a Valentine’s bouquet. Tickets are $80, and you can book directly online or call 204.927.6080.

Coming into Winnipeg for Valentines Day — or merely looking to get away for some alone time (meeeoooww), well you’ll most certainly need a room, and Mere Hotel has an ideal package for you.

Their “luxurious romantic getaway for two” gets you an overnight stay, locally handmade artisanal chocolates from Chocolatier Constance Popp, red roses, bubbles (that’s sparkling wine baby) and breakfast for two at Cibo Waterfront Cafe (free parking too!).

It’s one sexy deal I tell you, and it’s also available throughout the month of February — which makes it great for you folks coming to Festival du Voyageur (which is located right across the Red River).

If you are looking for even more steamy spots to see, well our Romance Itinerary — which is, as they say in St. Boniface, très sexy — has you covered.

So make your plans now to turn up the heat in Peg City.

And Remember, comment below on your most romantic spot in Winnipeg for your chance to win two 10-day adult passes to Festival du Voyageur.
