6 The Winnipeg Barometer Report | Volume 9, 2018 Meetings and Conventions Pacing Looking at pacing in the current year (2018), total booked business is on par with 2017. However, delegate counts and total room nights are lower. Total number of delegates attending events declined 7.6 per cent in 2018 compared to 2017, while total rooms nights are down 11.5 per cent. Among non-provincial events, again, total booked business in 2018 is on par with 2017. That being said, total number of delegates are down 7.6 per cent, while room nights declined 15.3 per cent from 2017. Lower delegate count and room nights in 2018 are due to fewer large citywide conventions. Looking at event pacing for next year, total booked business tracked as of July 2018 is pacing below the same period last year (-30.2 per cent). However, delegate count and room nights are pacing ahead due to more large citywide events – 11.4 and 72.2 per cent respectively. Looking ahead two and three years, the number of confirmed events in Winnipeg is pacing much higher in 2018 than they were a year ago. Comparison of Booked Business Year-to-Date, July 2018 and July 2017
