Royal Bank of Canada Real potential: Looking back to look forward Over the past two years, we have been shaped by the pandemic globally. For how we shop, work, trade, heal and are entertained, we have reimagined our routines, workplaces and lifestyles. In 2022, we have the opportunity to pivot and be defined not by a pandemic but by our potential. Now that the sun has set on 2021, we'd like to look back on RBC Thought Leadership over the past year so that we may look forward to how Canada will reemerge and prosper in this new world. In the report, Building Bandwidth, we explored, alongside Indigenous youth, educators, employers and community leaders, how governments, employers, educators and communities share the responsibility in equipping Indigenous youth, the fastest-growing cohort of Canadian youth, with future-focused education, skills and opportunities for a digital economy. Powering Up explored how Canada may prepare skilled trades for a post-pandemic economy. With 25 per cent of Canada's tradespeople needing to upgrade their skills within five years due to significant digital disruption and a shortage of at least 10,000 workers, the opportunity comes by reimagining how we attract underrepresented groups to these fields including women and newcomers. The $2 Trillion Transition maps out some of the necessary pathways and policies for Canada to get to net-zero. The case for accelerated climate action will require everyone— homeowners, business operators, scientists, skilled tradespeople, educators, city planners—to lean in together if we are to put net-zero within reach while The Great Canadian Restart bookends the year with a look to the horizon and a six-point plan on a new greener growth strategy for Canada. Besides leaning into data and insights, what these reports all have in common is that they recognize the potential for real change, real growth and a real shift for Canada. Join us in a continued national dialogue as we explore throughout 2022 the potential for a better tomorrow through RBC Thought Leadership. In 2022, we have the opportunity to pivot and be defined not by a pandemic but by our potential."
